Take part in an amazing adventure by bike on the Mickelson Trail in South Dakota!

Meet Michael and Alan in Deadwood, South Dakota, to start an epic adventure by bike on the world-famous George S. Mickelson Trail.  Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills,  this crushed limestone rail-to-trail conversion boasts over 100 converted trail bridges, four stone tunnels, and absolutely stunning views. 

 

Day one (54-miles) Rolling over amazing trestle bridges and through four train tunnels,

riders will enjoy trailside coffee and breakfast snacks while taking in the beautiful Black Hills scenery.  After a light lunch at the Rochford Trailhead, riders will arrive in Hill City for celebratory drinks and wood-fired pizza at Mangiamo's, a wonderful Italian eatery.  Finishing the days' journey, riders can indulge in fireside beverages and snacks while enjoying their first evening of camping at Oreville Campground.

   

Day two options include a full rest day for those who would like to relax at the campground or explore Hill City and local sites, a 22-mile out-and-back ride allows riders to explore Custer and the surrounding area at their own pace.   For the more adventurous riders,  a 26-mile loop that includes a mid-ride hike featuring Black Elk Peak, Cathedral Spires, and Little Devils Tower. (Hike will have a minimum of 3.5 miles and a maximum of 9.5 miles.  The distance covered will depend on time, weather, and group input.  *Less than 4 riders registered for the Long Day 2 / 3 Peaks Hike will automatically default to the short day 2 option

 

Day three offers riders coffee at the local cafe', gorgeous scenery of the Black Hills from contrasting angles, and the chance to indulge in missed photo opportunities. An amazing last stretch of 11 coasting miles will bring the group back to Deadwood Trailhead where we will enjoy celebratory drinks and snacks while rehashing trail-side stories and relishing in the group's comradery and accomplishments. 

 

Total miles for the group with full rest day: 108

Total miles with Custer day trip: 130

Total miles for full distance group: 134 + Hike 

 

E-Bike Rentals with trailside pickup are available for $90 per day!

This is a SEMI-supported ride.

 

Rider cost of $375 includes:

  • Professional Guide Service and Trailside Maintenance.
  • Mickelson Trail Pass 
  • 2 PABS water bottles
  • Campsite fees
  • Day 1:
  1. morning trailside coffee and snack
  2. Celebratory dinner at Mangiamo’s Wood Fired Pizza & Italian Eatery
  3. Campfire snacks/drinks
  • Day 2:
  1. Breakfast & coffee at Miners Cup
  2. Campsite dinner & drinks
  • Day 3:
  1. Morning coffee at Perky Pine or Lynx Den Coffee Shop 
  2. Celebratory beer & snacks for Deadwood Day 3 Finale.
